Mrs. Edith L. Shultz, 97, of Frederick, died on Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Mehrl W. Shultz, Sr. Born August 12, 1916, in Frederick Co, she was a daughter of the late Bertram Mackley and Marie Delauter Mackley Tobery. Mrs. Shultz was a longtime member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick; and a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose #347, Frederick. In early years, she worked at Muse Tailoring and later with Price Electric. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Hartz & Company, Frederick. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was often found cooking and sewing for family; she loved to shop and read, and perhaps her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Gladys L. "Sissy" Carey and husband Carlton; a daughter-in-law, Cris Ann Shultz, and son-in-law, Joseph L. "Butch" Gordon, all of Frederick; four grandchildren, Gregory J. Carey, Lori Carey Garner and husband, Charlie; Teresa Wilcom and husband David, all of Frederick, Scott A. Gordon and wife, Amy Entis Gordon, of Adamstown; great-grandchildren, Brandy Garner, Chad Garner, Curtis West and wife, Jamie, Hyatt Gordon, Meritt Gordon and Beckett Gordon; great-great-grandchildren, Bianca Combs, Curtis Ray West; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by three children, Mehrl "Sonny" W. Shultz, Jr, Carroll E. Shultz and Carolyn "Susie" E. Gordon; two siblings, Pauline Lenhart, and Bertram Mackley, Jr. She will also be missed by her caretakers, Brenda Blank, and Butch Gordon. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm on Friday, January 24 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E Church Street, where services will be held at 10am on Saturday, January 25, with Pastor Robert Driver-Bishop, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Independent Hose Company, 310 Baughman's Lane, Frederick, MD 21702.
