Francis David Ruggeri

January 18, 1943 — January 25, 2014

Francis David Ruggeri, 71, of New Market, MD, passed away on January 25 peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with mesothelioma. He was the beloved husband of 48 years to Mary L. Gates Ruggeri. Born on January 18, 1943, he was the son of the late Frank Ruggeri and Jennie (Rizzotte) Ruggeri. Frank retired in 1999 from the Department of Defense (DOD) after a 34 year career serving as an intelligence analyst in the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and the office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). He was a devoted father to Diana Ruggeri (Bobby Lester) and Mary Jo Ruggeri Powell (Scott Powell) and was a loving grandfather of Hunter Powell, Samantha Powell and Jessica Lester. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 28 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 29 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Frederick.
