Virginia "Ginny" Marie Ervin, 83, of Frederick, Maryland passed away on February 11, 2014. She was a loving, spirited woman and a devoted sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ginny was a critical care nurse for over 30 years, and a leader in creating the hospice program in Frederick in 1979. Ginny is survived by five children, Andrew Gaspar, Lorraine Tyeryar, Linda Secor, Cheryl Cook and Susan Yantorno; as well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, to whom she was "Gigi." She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ervin. She was a beloved sister to Lorraine Marci of Pennsylvania and Thomas Miller of Hawaii, and a cherished cousin to Rose Fracek of Florida. After a career as a real estate broker, Ginny served as co-chair of Frederick County's steering committee to establish a hospice program. This program established a type of care in the community, which helped families provide care and comfort to loved ones who are seriously ill. Ginny touched countless lives through her work delivering care as a nurse. Her work over three decades saved and impacted many lives, as she treated patients at the most critical times in the emergency room. She served communities throughout Maryland, including work at Frederick Memorial Hospital, the Suburban Hospital in Bethesda and Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. People throughout these communities enjoyed healthier, fuller lives because of the compassionate, dedicated care she provided at critical moments. After her retirement, she spent time with her dogs enjoying the company of her family, friends and neighbors. Ginny was a loving, caring mother and friend who was full of life and full of spirit, always one to enjoy a good political debate. Her love and company have shaped the people around her, who were truly blessed to have her as part of their lives. She will be dearly missed. A memorial mass will be held at 10 am on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, Maryland. Father Kevin Farmer will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be private at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
