Mrs. Lacy Elizabeth (Waltz) Smalley, age 89 of Gettysburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the York General Hospital, York, PA. She was the wife of the late George Richard Smalley who passed away in 2000. Born on July 9, 1924 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret (Runkles) Waltz. She was pre-deceased by son George Richard Smalley, Jr, great-grandson Noah Blankenship, son-in-law Tom Bowyer, her sisters Catherine Waltz, Louise Layman, and Evelyn and brother-in-law Henry Arnold. Also pre-deceased by her husband's family members, sisters-in-law Edith and Husband Mark Ryan, Alberta and husband John R, Ann, Mildred, and brothers-in-law Henry Smalley, and Bill Brownlee. Lacy spent most of her life in Baltimore, In younger years, she enjoyed shopping trips to downtown Baltimore and New York. She was a member of the Young at Heart Club in Brooklyn in the 1980-90s, and a life member of the Eastern Star. After her stroke in 2002, she was less mobile, but still enjoyed outings to shops and restaurants. A few of her favorite things included reading, Lawrence Welk and I Love Lucy reruns, bingo and the family bulldog, Cleo. She was known for her infectious laughter and smile during activities at the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village. Mrs. Smalley was the mother of Leslie Bowyer and husband Bill Tracy of Roland Park and Alice Blankenship and husband Edward of Westminster and the grandmother of Stuart Bowyer, Lauren Bowyer, Jason Blankenship and wife Danielle, Adam Blankenship and wife Linda, and Dustin Blankenship. She is also survived by a brother-in-law George Layman, two nephews, Robert Arnold and George Layman III and wife Rebecca, two grandnieces Hannah and Sarah, and one grandnephew Andrew. She is also survived by some of her husband's family, brothers-in-law Paul Smalley and wife Elaine, Forest Smalley and wife Naomi, and Kenneth Smalley, and sister-in-law Gwen Brownlee. Friends will be received on Sunday, February 16, 2014 from 2-4 and from 6-8 PM at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 2 PM. The interment will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11 AM in Meadowridge Memorial Park, Elkridge.
