Mr. Edward Carlton Carey, Jr., 83, of Frederick, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of Gladys Shultz Carey. They were married on May 13, 1950. Born in Frederick County on April 2, 1930, he was a son of the late Edward C., Sr., and Katherine Kanode Carey. Carlton was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1947. He proudly served his country during the Korean War as a United States Marine. He enjoyed baseball as a fan and was a player for the Tri-County League Baseball Teams in Doubs and Yellow Springs. Carlton worked from 1962 until his retirement in 1997, as a self employed contractor builder. He was a member of the St. Marks Lutheran Church in Doubs, ( now known as Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church), life member of the Frederick County Agricultural Society and a former member and past governor of the Moose Lodge # 371. Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Gregory J. Carey and Lori Carey Garner and husband Charles, all of Frederick, two grandchildren, Brandy Garner, Chad Garner and great granddaughter Bianca Combs,one brother Roland D. Carey and wife Gloria, of Frederick, sisters-in-law, Regina Carey, of Petersville and CrisAnn Shultz, of Frederick, and brother-in-law, Joseph Gordon, of Frederick, also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas Carey and Ralph Carey. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Monday, February 17, 2014, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Robert Driver-Bishop, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
