Vernon Leslie Keeney Sr, 68, of Monrovia, MD., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 after a brief illness. Born on September 19, 1945, in Damascus, he is the son of the late Ross E. and Catherine I. (Etzler) Keeney. Vernon was an employee for Hahn's Transportation for 43 years and he attended Poolesville High School. Vernon was dedicated to his family, friends and his job. He was one of a kind and a "True professional". He was a member of the VFW of Charlestown, The Frederick Moose Club, and was a proud member of Riverbend. Vernon enjoyed spending his time at Riverbend surrounding himself with family and friends. He loved going out on his boat, playing cards, dancing, and working. He will be remembered for his great personality, will power, work ethic, one of a kind smile and his great sense of humor. He is survived by sons, Vernon Keeney Jr. (Bretta Snyder), John Keeney (Lori) , Ross Keeney (April) and David Keeney (Brittany Luhn), daughter, Victoria Keeney, fiancé, Robin Pope, step son, Michael Stine Jr. (Joanna), step daughter, Kristina Stine, brothers, Donald Keeney and Roger Keeney, sisters, Irene Brashear, Ruth Grimes, Alta Toms, Joyce Flohr, Janet Kaufman and Faye Thompson, grandchildren, Danielle, Tyler, Katelyn, Dalton, Crystal, Kyle, Landon, Ayden and a future grandchild from David, great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Adrian, and Cory. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, David Etzler, Catherine Whalen and Dorothy Davis. The family will receive friends from 1 to 5pm, on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821 Green Valley Road, Monrovia, MD 21770. Pastor Mike Yoho will officiate.
