Mrs. Mary Mildred (Miller) Hargis, 92, of Frederick, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Alan H. Hargis, who died in 1985. Born December 23, 1921, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo G. and Mary Margaret (Dutrow) Miller. Mrs. Hargis was a graduate of St. John's Catholic School and St. Agnes Nursing Program. She was an avid volunteer, working with the local Red Cross, the American Heart Association, Project Early Bird, Home Call Org., the Blood Mobile, and St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by her children, Mary Joan Ferrell and husband Jack of Ooltewah, TN, James A. Hargis of Chicago and Anne Lee Baldwin of Frederick, brother, Richard Miller, sister, Lenora McKenzie, grandchildren, Alan Ferrell and wife Jen, Stephanie Prahl and husband David, Mark Baldwin and Karen Baldwin and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph Miller, Grayson Miller, and Patricia Ann Murphy. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm, on Monday, March 31, 2014, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A vigil service will follow at 8:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00PM, on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Father Stephen Gosnell will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be shared to St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 112 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
