Mr. Oliver Thomas (Tom) Kolb, 93 previously of Crestwood Village, Frederick, Maryland and current resident of Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center, joined his wife in God's care on Tuesday, April 01, 2014. He was the husband of the late Jane Sue Kolb, his wife of 67 years who recently passed in January 2014. Born May 9, 1920 in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of Myrtle Lake Kaylor Kolb and Charles Lawrence Kolb of Frederick, Maryland. Mr. Kolb was a 1940 graduate of Frederick High School, Frederick, Maryland. Mr. Kolb a WWII veteran enlisted in the United States Air Force 1942-1946; took his basic training at St. Petersburg, FL, then onto Scott Field, IL where he was trained as a radio operator and mechanic. Soon after he was stationed at Love Field Air Force base in Dallas, TX; sent to Tripoli, Africa; Rome, Italy and became part of a crew that flew wounded soldier's to military hospitals. It was in Texas that he met and married his wife Sue after the war ended, bringing her back to Frederick where they resided and raised their family. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Elder in the Frederick Presbyterian Church before becoming a long time member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick. Mr. Kolb served as a lay minister for Taneytown and New Windsor Presbyterian Churches four years, then as guest minister for many years in various country churches throughout the surrounding Frederick area. Employed with the Farmers & Mechanics National Bank of Frederick for over thirty-six years, he retired in 1982. He was well known throughout Frederick County for his heart felt poetry, which appeared in the Frederick News Post weekly for well over a decade. He published over a dozen poetry books as well as his auto biography. Surviving are his three children: Karen Sue Timon and husband Robert of Frederick, Maryland, Gary Thomas Kolb and wife Jackie of Thurmont, Maryland and David Charles Kolb and wife Susan of Durango, Colorado, niece Robin Airey, Baltimore, Maryland, as well as four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services to be held at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, Maryland on April 07, 2014 beginning at 10 AM; Rev. Ken Humbert will officiate. The interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, Maryland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, April 06, 2014 from 5-8 PM.
