Mr. Robert (Bob) Vincent Young, 84, 8527 Crum Road, Walkersville, Maryland died at his home on April 8, 2014 with his loving wife by his side. Born in Boyds, Maryland on February 20, 1930, Bob was the son of the late Crawford Wade Young and Clydia Marie Carlin Young. Bob graduated from Frederick High School, Class of 1947. Bob was an academic student and one of the first in his class to have a car and with his sense of humor, his brashness and boldness, he was very popular. After graduation, he farmed with his father in Harmony Grove for several years and in 1962, Bob and his wife, Shirley, purchased the Walter Crum farm on Crum Road. After farming for 5 years, the farm was sold to Glade Valley and Bob went to work for the Frederick Soil Conservation. While working for the Frederick Soil Conservation, the Howard County Soil Conservation recognized the continuing need for conservation and the more complex problems arising with urbanization, and so in January 1969, Bob was hired by the Howard County Soil Conservation. He implemented numerous projects and programs especially sediment control, maintained public relations, and coordinated the controls and regulations with Howard County, State of Maryland and Federal agencies. At the time, construction had started for the city of Columbia. The Howard County Supervisors knew that with the developing of the city of Columbia, Bob would be an asset to the Rouse Organization, thus, in January 1971, The Rouse Company offered Bob a position and he was hired. Bob worked for The Rouse Company until his retirement in May 1992 where he was Manager, Development Services. He handled complaints and acted on residential, commercial and industrial concerns maintaining good public relations. He ensured Columbia complied with all local, state, and federal land development practices. Bob ensured builders of regulations of land sales contracts as well as architectural standards, enforced the builder's service guarantees to new residents, obtained all permits for the city of Columbia with success, and monitored soil erosion controls. Bob was baptized at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Barnesville and was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Frederick, Maryland. He was married there on October 16, 1952 to Shirley Ann Bowers. Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Donna Jean Logsdon, Turners Station, Kentucky and Barbara Ann Hogan, Walkersville, Maryland; two grandsons, Richard Vincent Witherill (Maki), Port Charlotte, Florida and John Joseph Hogan, Walkersville, Maryland; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. For many years, Bob was a member of the NRA and had been a member of the B.P.O. Elks No. 684. It was a sad day when he could no longer go hunting whether it was pheasant or deer. However, reading was a hobby and needless to say his favorite books were Forty Four Years In The Life of a Hunter, or those about hunting big game. Bob was a loving and devoted family man and proud of his religion. For several years prior to his illness, Bob was an usher at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church at the Saturday evening Mass. He always had something to say and was quick on responses. He never lost his sense of humor. Bob was predeceased by his parents, a brother, James Carlin Young; sisters, Mary Ethel Ramsburg, Evelyn Marie Castle and Eleanor Ann Orndorff; granddaughter, Adrienne Marie Hogan; and two sons-in law, Robert Joseph Hogan and Jimmy Logsdon.
