Jurgen George Piper

Mr. Jurgen George Piper, 103, of Frederick, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at Homewood at Crumland Farms. He was the husband of Dorothy Roberson Piper. Born December 31, 1910, in Denmark, he was the son of the late Ernest W. and Aldine M. Piper. He was brought to this country by his parents in 1915. Mr. Piper was a Procurement and Contracting Officer serving as an assistant to the Director of Purchases at the US Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C. at the time of his retirement in 1969, after 40 years of service. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Navy with the SEABEES from 1943 to 1946. Upon his discharge, he reenlisted in the US Navy Reserve, serving as a Chief Disbursing Clerk until his retirement in 1970, after 29 years of service. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Frederick, a member of the Frederick County Commission on Aging for 20 years. He was a life member of the Frederick American Legion Post #11, the Frederick Veterans of Foreign Wars #3285 where he once served as Adjutant, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 409 where he served in many capacities for more than 20 years, including president of the Maryland Federation of NARFE Chapters. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the Frederick County Citizens Nursing Home Auxiliary. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dr. Jurgen F. Piper (Lilah) of New Hampshire, grandson, Erick Piper (Tracey), granddaughter, Ingrid Piper-Nelson (Scott), great-grandsons, Connor and Cormac, all of Massachusetts, niece, Frances Stuart (William) of Frederick and nephew, Ronald Piper of Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert E. Piper and grandson, Kristian Piper. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 703 W. Patrick Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Rev. Lynn Wilson will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project National Processing Center, P.O.
