Madora (Dora) Miskell Athey, 84, of Frederick, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 19, 2014, with her family by her side. Born March 16, 1930, on Heater's Island near Point of Rocks, Maryland, Madora was one of 11 children born to the late Fairfax Minor and Genevieve Maggie Miskell. She was the wife of the late Joseph W. Athey, with whom she shared 52 years before his death in 2002. Madora was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who enjoyed the company of family and friends as well as an occasional game of Rummy or Pitch. She enjoyed many years working at Sears, Roebuck & Co., as well as the Bon Ton department store, Country Hill and Applegate Apartments. She was also a dedicated and respected Avon representative. She enjoyed hosting dinners at her home, spending time with family and especially her grandchildren, crocheting, country music and QVC. She was a faithful member of Frederick Presbyterian Church. She is survived by: four sons- Craig W. Athey of Harrisburg, PA, Allan Jeffrey Athey of Woodsboro, Gary W. Athey and wife Dana of Frederick, and David M. Athey and wife Vanessa of Woodsboro; one daughter, Brenda L. Allen and husband Grant of Middletown; seven grandchildren- Alexander P. Athey, Kimberly A. Estep, Chad A. Athey, James J. Allen, Genevieve L. Allen, Michaela M. Athey and Joseph E. Athey; four great-grandchildren, Bobby Parish, Marinda Estep, Jeremy Athey and Ryan Athey; three step-grandchildren, Taylor Kent, Kristin Kent and Ryan Kent; two sisters, Virginia Campbell of Charles Town, WV, and Mary Madeline Pearl of Jefferson, MD; two brothers, Richard Miskell of Westminster, and William Miskell of Rocky Ridge, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Madora was preceded in death by six siblings: Minor Miskell, Catherine Mohr, Jesse Miskell, Anna Eigenbrode, Birtrand Miskell and Charles Miskell. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, Maryland. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 W. Second Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701. The Rev. Dr. Eric T. Myers, pastor of Frederick Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Furnace Mountain Cemetery, Lucketts, Virginia. The family would like to thank her physicians for their wonderful care, and the many expressions of love and concern from the members of Frederick Presbyterian Church over the past several years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Madora's name to the Frederick Presbyterian Church.
