Lorraine Quereux Cecil, age 94 of Frederick passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Somerford Assisted Living, Frederick, Md. She lived most of her life in the Washington, DC area and then retired to Buckingham's Choice, Frederick, Md. in 2000. She was the wife of the late Mr. James W. Cecil who passed away in 1987. Born on June 4, 1919 in Lawrence, Massachuetts, she was the daughter of the late Winoc and Eugenie (Rolin) Quereux. Mrs. Cecil devoted her life to service towards the Catholic Church. She worked for over 40 years at Catholic University working as a professor's assistant. She served on numerous boards and commissions including: The John Carroll Society, The Women of Faith, Christ Child Society, Catholic Commission on Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, The National Counsel of Catholic Women, Washington Archdiocese Counsel of Catholic Women, Maryland Governors Commission for Women, one of the original organizers for the March for Life in Washington, DC, Prince Georges County, Md Foster Care Review Board. Mrs. Cecil was a recipient of the Papal Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal in August of 1984 and a lifetime achievement award from the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women in 2004. During World War II, Mrs. Cecil worked for the Navy Department. Mrs. Cecil is survived by her daughter, Marybeth Gaine and her husband Patrick of Waterford, VA, her granddaughter C. Brigid Gaine, foster son Edward "Tri" Pham, his wife Christine, foster grandson Tristan Cecil Pham, foster grandaughter Sian Pham and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son Wm. Robert Cecil and her siblings, Rita Shevlin, Alfred Quereux and Gerard Quereux. Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 9 to 10 am at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 5843 Manor Woods Rd. Frederick, MD 21703 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am. Father Lawrence K. Frazier will officiate. The burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Cecil's name to Catholic Charities - either Washington Archdiocese, or Baltimore Archdiocese.
