Miss Ella Jean Layman, 81, of Creagerstown, died on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Sunrise Assisted Living Community. Born on December 6, 1932 in Creagerstown she was a daughter of the late Granville and Ethel Wiles Layman. She was retired from the Federal Government having worked for the Agriculture Department after more than 30 years. After retirement, she worked locally, doing demonstrations for a marketing firm. Miss Layman was an active member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Creagerstown, where she served on various committees. Surviving her are three brothers, Thomas W. Layman, Richard H. Layman and Robert M. Layman, and several nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by special friends, Madeline Valentine and Viola Noffsinger. She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Jane Layman and two brothers, Charles and James Layman. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 3, 2014, from the St. John's Lutheran Church, Creagerstown. The Rev. Dr. Charles H. Zang, interim pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick.
