Patrick Michael Aylward, 77 of Frederick, Maryland passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Edenton Retirement Home. Born on April 4, 1937, he was the son of the late Richard Francis and Sara-Ann (Murphy) Aylward. Patrick was proud to serve active duty for 26 years in the United States Army. He was a proud retired service member and proud of his country. He was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and served as a volunteer Eucharistic Minister at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Patrick was a member of the Francis Scott Key Post #11 of the American Legion for over 20 years. Both Fort Detrick and the City of Frederick held special places in Patrick's heart, it has been his home, and the home of his dearest friends for many years. Patrick is survived by his nieces and nephews, Jamie McKay and wife Linda, John McKay and former wife Susan Poyle, Michael McKay, Dick McKay and wife Meg, Peggy McKay and fiance Bob Fattizzi, Patrick McKay and wife Debi, John Aylward and wife Mary Fields, Susan Aylward, Patrick Aylward and wife Mollie, Danny Aylward and wife Debbi, and Maureen and husband Joe Shaw; and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved and cherished friend Connie Hill; his brothers, Richard "Dick" Aylward and John "Jack" Aylward; his sister, Peggy (Aylward) McKay and nephews Timmy Aylward and Jimmy Aylward. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at on Wednesday, July 9 at 10 am at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second Street, Frederick. Interment will be in New York with his family. Services will also be in Rockaway Beach, NY.
