Mrs. Hilda Roelke Watkins, 94, of Frederick, passed away peacefully, on Friday, July 4, 2014, at her daughter's home. Twice married, she was the wife of the late Charles W. Roelke and the late Arthur L. Watkins, Jr. Born on March 28, 1920 in Damascus, Maryland , she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Beulah Souder Hyatt. Hilda graduated from Damascus High School and the University of Maryland. She taught Science and Physical Education at Damascus High School and Physical Education at Frederick High School. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, the Friendly Circle Sunday School Class and served the church on the administrative board. She was also a member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in the gift shop. Hilda was past president of the Frederick County Physical Education Teachers Association and a member of the Retired Women's Physical Education Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Rainbow Bells, Junior Women's Club and the University of Maryland Alumnae Association. Surviving are her children, Robert H. Roelke and wife Trudy and Carol Roelke Officer and husband Mark, all of Frederick, stepdaughter, Jeanne Patten and husband David, of Norwell, MA, seven grandchildren, Robert H. Roelke, Jr., and wife Kim, Erin A. Roelke, Jennifer O. Aud and husband Jason, Scott W. Officer, Jennifer Patten, Arthur Patten , Rick Patten and wife Lisa, six great grandchildren, Abbi, Lukas, Jacob, Hadley, Ben and Grace, also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles W. Roelke, Jr., a brother, Herbert Hyatt and a sister, Janice H. Green. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick. The Rev. Ken Humbert, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Damascus United Methodist Church Cemetery.
