Mark R. Fisher, Jr

November 10, 1954 — July 24, 2014

Mark Richard Fisher, Jr, 59, of Harpers Ferry, WV, formerly of Frederick, died on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, after a courageous eight year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Cherie Rouzee Fisher, his wife of 20 years. Born in Frederick, Maryland on November 10, 1954, a son of the late Mark Richard and Nancy Lee (Shankle) Fisher, Sr. Mark graduated from Frederick High School, Class of 1972, and worked for a short time with his family's business, HMF Paving. Mark would later join the Montgomery County Department of Fire and Rescue, where he worked as a career firefighter, retiring after 22 years. He also worked part-time with the Frederick County Department of Fire & Rescue Service. His work with MCFRS led to him serving on Maryland Task Force Team One, who were first response units with the September 11th events at the Pentagon; as well as serving on the Urban Search & Rescue Team and assisting with many disasters during that time. He also served with M.E.R.S. Mark was a life member of the United Steam Fire Engine Company, No. 3 Frederick, where he held many offices and currently had the honor of being Chief Emeritus. He was also a member of the Johnny Swamper Club; the Frederick Elks Lodge, No 684; and the Loyal Order of Moose No 948, Charles Town. He played semi-pro football with the Frederick Falcons and had a brief but proud few months with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mark enjoyed hunting and playing softball; loved that he had the best career ever as a firefighter; and most all loved time spent with family, especially his granddaughter, Lille. Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Mark R. Fisher III and friend Justin Gearry, of Baltimore, Katelyn Wolf and husband David, and Britney Lowman, all of Frederick; his granddaughter, Lillian Rose Wolf; five siblings, Teresa Hoffman and husband John, of Florida, Jo Anne Hahn and husband Jerry, of Frederick, Susan Fisher, of Frederick, Jeff Fisher, of Florida and Michael Fisher and wife Julia, of Frederick; nieces and nephews, Wendy, Lindsey, Hannah, Jerry, Kyle, Jeff and Chase and great-nieces and great-nephew, Tristen, Kevin, Olivia and Jessica. The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 5 to 9pm on Monday, July 28 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E Church Street, Frederick. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 29th, from Frederick Christian Fellowship, 10142 Hansonville Road, Frederick with Pastor Timothy S. May officiating.
