James Edward Routzahn

January 29, 1921 — August 24, 2014

James (Brub) Edward Routzahn died on August 24, 2014. Born in Frederick, MD on January 29, 1921; he was the son of the late Charles O. Routzahn and Erma Heffner Routzahn. He served overseas in WWII and then followed in his father's footsteps and went on to pursue a long career working for the United States Postal Service. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a faithful member of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ. He was an avid walker; covering many neighborhood miles around the City of Frederick for years. He thoroughly enjoyed being outside in the fresh air, family vacations to Ocean City and swimming in the ocean. He also enjoyed reading the Baltimore Sun, watching the Oriole's and Raven's games and old classic and western movies. Although he was a very shy and quiet person, he was extremely intelligent and had a broad knowledge of many things; along with a subtle, witty personality that was shared with his family, neighbors and close acquaintances. He is survived by his siblings, Elinor Hutton, Mary Staley, John Routzahn, Allen Routzahn and Jane Marks; two daughters, Tina Showe and Lisa Routzahn; four grandchildren, Donnie Lowe and wife Stacey, Charles (Chuck) Custer and wife Melissa (Missy), Michelle Showe, and Stacey Harrison; six great-grandchildren, Coby, Jenna, and Cara Lowe, Christian Masser, and Addison and Logan Custer. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 59 years, Caroline Elizabeth Hahn Routzahn, and his brothers Charles O. Routzahn, Jr. and William Routzahn, Sr. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, August 28, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at Keeney and Basford, PA, Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, 21701. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD. The family would like to invite everyone to the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, 15 West Church Street, Frederick, in the basement recreation center, for a reception immediately following interment.
