Mrs. Helen Lorraine Gladhill England, 87, of Ijamsville, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Edwin Hood "Buddy" England, Jr., who died December 31, 1985. Born in Frederick County on August 16, 1927, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Mary Alice Summers Gladhill. Mrs. England had worked along with her husband for many years on the family dairy farm. For several years she worked as a substitute school teacher for Frederick County in elementary and high schools. She was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and was very active with the Urbana Volunteer Fire Company. She was a graduate of Frederick High School class of 1944. She was an avid gardener, loved to watch basketball and she enjoyed traveling to the outer banks with her family. Surviving are her three children, Edwin H. "Chip" England III, of Ijamsville, Sunni D. Gabriel and husband Pierre, of Mt. Airy and R. Anne Hammer, of Ijamsville, two brothers, Donald Gladhill and wife Gloria, of Woodsboro, Richard "Doc" Gladhill, of Bartonsville, two sisters, Grace Flanigan and husband Richard, of Woodsboro and Betty Wright and husband John, of Frederick, six grandchildren, David R. Fisher, Jr., and wife Sherry, Heather M. Campbell and husband Bob, Lauren E. McKim and husband Josh, Edwin H. "Duke" England IV, Amanda C. England and Lucas P. Gabriel, 11 great grandchildren, Nathan, Jake, Ayden, Aja, Luke, Darrian, Danyal, Dylan, Ariel, Cara and Skye, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Merle Gladhill, John "Buddy" Gladhill and sister, Madeline Main. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday, August 29, 2014, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 30, 2014, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Sean J. DeLawder, pastor of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Woodsboro, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
