David K. Schultz, Jr. 91, died September 3rd 2014. Beloved husband of Avis Bondena (Bonnie) Schultz (deceased) of Frederick, Maryland. Born July 10th 1923, he was a son of David K. and Jenny I. Schultz, Sr. (deceased) of Frederick, Maryland. Brother to seven siblings, Lena Snyder (deceased), Helen Hawes (deceased), Eva Iwanik (deceased), Staley Schultz (deceased), Evelyn King (deceased), Jean Beachley (deceased), Kenneth Schultz (deceased). Beloved father of Marcia Schultz Fisher (deceased), Daryl Schultz and his wife Meg of Olney, Maryland, David Schultz and his wife Donna of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina and granddaughter Megan Schultz of Baltimore, and grandson Matthew Schultz of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dave Schultz was a lifelong resident of Rocky Springs, Maryland and grew up on a farm at the foot of the Catoctin Mountains. He was a graduate of Frederick High School in 1941 and was a dedicated member of the class who attended nearly every class reunion. Enlisting in the Army he was trained as a forward observer in a mortar platoon, but Dave had other ideas about his military service and signed up for the Army Air Corps. Flight school proved to be a great challenge for Dave and because of his work at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, Maryland he became a mechanic in the 1st fighter group's 94th squadron ("the hat in the ring" outfit) that flew P-38s in North Africa and Italy during World War II. He attended many of his 94th squadron reunions with his wife Bonnie traveling all over the United States. Many of his jackets display the fighter squadron insignia of the "hat in the ring." He is most proud of participating in the following Battle and Campaigns of World War II - Rome - Arno, North Appennines, Po Valley, Southern France, Northern France Rhineland, Air Offensive Europe, Air Combat Balkans. After the war he met and married the then Avis Bondena Kepler in 1947, and raised three children in Rocky Springs. Dave worked at Fort Detrick, Maryland for many years then retired to the life of a gentleman farmer in Rocky Springs. He was most recently a resident at Sommerford House in Frederick. Dave was a lifelong member of the Edgewood Church of God serving in many positions within the church over many decades. Family and friends are invited to Keeney and Basford Funeral Home 106 East Church Street, Frederick, on Friday, September 5th 2014 for viewings from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Friday afternoon and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Edgewood First Church of God, 8204 Edgewood Church Road, Frederick, at 11:00 am Saturday September 6th 2014, Reverend Duane Beck will preside. Pall bearers for the funeral will be Ralph Brown, Eric May, Dennis May, Matthew Schultz, Charles Korrell, Brad Hildebrand, Mark Hawes, and James Shafer.
