Mary Elizabeth Hosier

April 20, 1915 — September 20, 2014

Mary Elizabeth Hosier, 99, of Mount Airy, MD passed from this life to life eternal Saturday, September 20, 2014, at her residence. She was the wife of 71 years of Harold E. Hosier, who preceded her in death in 2009. Born April 20, 1915, in Stroudsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Stella (Laros) Keiper. Also preceding her in death are her brother, Charles A. Keiper, Jr., and her infant son David. She graduated from Stroudsburg High School in 1932 and East Stroudsburg State Teachers College (now East Stroudsburg University) in 1936 with a B.A. degree. She was valedictorian of both her high school and college classes. Prior to her retirement, Mary taught English at Bangor Area High School where she also served as the Senior Tri-Hi-Y faculty advisor. She was an expert knitter and for many years was a knitting instructor at Wyckoff's department store in Stroudsburg. Following her retirement, she lived at Indian Lake Estates, FL; Winter Haven, FL; and Frederick and Mount Airy, MD. She loved her husband and family, literature, music, and chocolate in any form. But most of all, she loved Jesus Christ and did her best to serve Him to the end of her earthly life. Mary is survived by her son Robert Hosier and his wife Janice of Mt. Airy, her granddaughters Stephanie Weigelt and husband David of Emmitsburg, MD; Katherine Maxey and husband Tim of Woodsboro, MD; and Karen Vetter and husband Aaron of Mount Airy. She is additionally survived by seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 6:30 PM on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 27015 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872. Light refreshments will be served. A memorial service will follow the reception at 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ministries of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer or a ministry of your choice in Mary's name are requested. An inurnment service will be held at Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg, PA, at a later date.
