Ruby Ruth Summers, age 87 - but if you asked her, she would respond "as old as my nose and two big toes and a little older than my teeth" - of Frederick, ascended into Heaven on Friday, October 3, 2014. Born on January 29, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer Wyand Moser and Virgie Elizabeth (Stine) Moser. Ruby loved to have fun and laugh and taught those around her to do the same. She knew the importance of family and wanted to be surrounded by them, from Sunday dinners, Easter egg hunts and Christmas gift-giving to picnics and reunions. Even at the moment she was lifted into Heaven in the arms of angels she was surrounded by many of those she loved. In her younger years, she was fond of gardening and at one point, had an entire room dedicated to her plants. She worked tirelessly to support her family and was a pillar of strength, resilience, and perseverance - no matter what life tossed her, she was up for the challenge - standing tall, standing proud, and standing strong. She spent many of her last years receiving visits from DSS nurses who so graciously and lovingly cared for her. She was also blessed to make many new friends while attending Daybreak Adult Day Services for the last 7 years. In addition to enjoying bingo and dominoes and especially the conversations with the Daybreak bus drivers; she was also treated with the utmost care and compassion from the Daybreak staff. She also loved to read and listen to music. She was an animal lover, rescuing and caring for many cats and dogs throughout her years and will be greatly missed by her cat, Stubby. In her early years, Ruby studied nursing at Springfield State Hospital where she continued to work for a short time. She also worked at American Optical before moving back into nursing; first at Pasco Hospital in New Port Richey, Florida and then at the former Frederick Nursing Center where she was a dedicated employee for 26 years. Surviving are her children: C. Wayne Summers, Sr. and wife Gail, Wilma Rowe and husband John of Frederick, Carol Bell and husband Eddie of Ocean Pines, Md and Kimberly Hetzer and husband Jeff of Smithsburg; grandchildren: Cheryl Fraley, Dustee Sylvester, Maxie Lawson, Pepper Bowins, Martin "Bunky" King, Jerry King, Tania Bell, C. Wayne Summers, Jr., and Aidan Hetzer. Also survived by many greatgrandchilren and several great-great grandchildren including a special great-granddaughter, Ashley Thomas, who lovingly helped to care for her during her last weeks with us. Also surviving are brother, George Moser and Wm. Hayes Moser and sisters, Josephine Peapples, Rebecca Twigg, and Darlene Carbaugh. She was preceded in death by a son Robert "Roby" Summers and her husband, Charles Summers who she had been separated from since 1980. Also, preceded in death by her twin sister , Ruth Dixon, and when together, those two created the 'dynamic duo' - we are all certain that Heaven just became a little more fun now that they are together once again. Also, preceded in death were brothers John Thomas Moser and David Moser, and sisters Velma Rice and Pauline Moser. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 2-4 and from 6-8pm at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 1 PM. The interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. Any contributions can be made in Mrs Summers' name to Daybreak Adult Day Services, Inc. at 7819 Rocky Springs Rd., Frederick, MD 21702 .
