Mr. Thomas Eugene Hubin (a.k.a. El Gordo, Snake), 77, of Frederick, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Theresa (Templeton) Hubin. Born April 26, 1937, in Springfield, IL, he was the son of the late Eugene and Phyllis (Frye) Hubin. He received his undergraduate degree from Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH, and his graduate degree from Catholic University in Washington DC. He worked in personnel for the government in various agencies, and then left public service to form his own company, The Templeton Group, with his wife Theresa. The Templeton Group was a company of recruiters focused on the fire protection engineering industry. Tom and Theresa spent many happy years living on their "mountain" outside of Harper's Ferry, West Virginia before being asked to leave the state due to the many raucous camping parties they hosted. They then retired to Frederick. He is a rare "Seven Sacrament" holder, having been ordained in 1964. Tom loved camping hiking, reading, bad puns, classical music, singing in a choir and playing any instrument he picked up, Irish Whiskey, dogs Fenny, Bruiser, and Bear; and most importantly, his friends and family, who will miss him dearly. In addition to his wife Theresa, Tom is survived by children, Stephen Hubin and wife Dena; Elaine Hughes and husband Dave; Michelle "Mickie" O'Donnell and husband Jimmy; Jan Scott and partner Neal "Kirk" Kirkpatrick; John Miller and wife Amy; grandchildren, Nathan Pangburn and Sarah Pangburn; Heather and Rebecca Creasey; great-grandchildren Jordan and Ava White; and sister Mary Hubin. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., on Monday, October 13, 2014, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The memorial service will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Etchison Memorial Chapel, at the funeral home. Deacon Mike Currens will officiate. Inurnment will be private. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony at Il Porto Restaurant on Market Street in Frederick.
