Shirley May Grossnickle, 73, of Frederick, and formerly Fairfield, PA, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Northampton Manor. Born on July 21, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Austin B. "Jake" and Ruth Lily (Baer) Grossnickle. Shirley lived most of her life in Maryland, prior to moving to Pennsylvania. She was employed by Shriner Manufacturing in Woodsboro, Muse Tailoring, H.L. Hartz manufacturing and American Optical. She enjoyed playing bingo, doing arts and crafts and going to flea markets and yard sales. She is survived by a daughter, Ruth Ellen Prescott of Greenville, NC; granddaughter, Heather Lynne Mann of Greenville, NC; a sister, Jo Anne Rodgers of Frederick, MD; a special sister-in-law, Mida Gilbert of Fairfield, PA and a special cousin, Delores Wolfe of Frederick, MD and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Austin Eugene Grossnickle and her beloved canine companion, Bronco Gilbert. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Francis Scott Key Chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Frederick. Inurnment will be private for the family.
