Mr. Thomas Franklin "Frank" Hipkins, Sr., 88, of Urbana, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Frederick. He was the loving husband of Barbara Phillips Hipkins. Born in Frederick County, near Urbana on December 15, 1925, he was a son of the late Walter L. and Mary C. Brandenburg Hipkins. Mr. Hipkins for most of his life worked as a dairy farmer in the Urbana area. He had a great love for farming, his family and was a good person who cared for many family members and friends. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and a former member of the Urbana Volunteer Fire Company. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Thomas Franklin "Frank" Hipkins, Jr., and his wife Cheryl and David Walter Hipkins, all of Urbana, two grandsons, Daniel and Patrick Hipkins, both of Urbana, one brother, William Hipkins, of Urbana and many nieces, nephews and great friends. He will also be remembered by two foster sons he and his wife raised, Charles and Robert Shupe. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Rufus, Perry and John Hipkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Sandi Phillips, pastor of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the St. Paul's Cemetery, Point of Rocks. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions ay be made in his memory to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 3519 Urbana Pike, Frederick, MD 21704.
