Mary Teresa Schmitt Wilson Teresa Wilson passed away at home on October 24, 2014. Teresa was born at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC on September 7, 1950. Teresa attended La Reine HS, Class of 1968. She graduated from University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts in French. She received her Masters Degree in French from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. Teresa was a devoted mother and educator. She had recently retired from her career as a foreign language teacher at Governor Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, MD. Teresa primarily taught French. Teresa served as the Faculty Advisor of the champion-winning Governor Thomas Johnson High School academic team for decades. She was the advisor of the Governor Thomas Johnson High School French Club and was the Frederick County Teachers Association Building Representative. She was a member of the American Council for the Teachers of Foreign Languages and a member of the Alliance Francaise of Washington, DC. Additionally, Teresa was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Teresa was a free spirited woman who loved travel, art, fine wines, music, dance, word games, trivia, and crossword puzzles, and felt a deep affinity for animals. She made numerous trips abroad, with a particular focus on France. She chaperoned many student trips during the summer months and hosted numerous exchange students throughout her 35+ years teaching career. It was always her joy and passion to introduce and foster appreciation of foreign languages and French culture with her students. In her youth, Teresa excelled at baton twirling and dance, including being Crescent Cities Junior Miss and a featured baton twirler with the University of Maryland Marching Band during her four years of college. She maintained her interest in baton twirling attending numerous national and international competitions where she enthusiastically cheered for her nieces Karilee and Kaytlyn. She was the strongest champion of all accomplishments of her son, nieces, and nephews. Teresa was an active member, lector, and Eucharistic Minister with St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Buckeystown, MD. A beachcomber and collector of antiques and curios, Teresa loved her cottage at the beach in Ocean City, MD and spent her leisure time there hosting friends and family. She spent many hours up and down the Atlantic coast searching antique stores for curios and objects d'art, as well as selling her wares at Cannon Hill Antique Shop in Frederick. Teresa was a Renaissance woman and had a deep knowledge of wide ranging subjects. A bona fide trivia expert and puzzler, she was a formidable jeopardy arm-chair participant and was the first choice partner in family trivial pursuit games. On lazy afternoons at the beach, Teresa could be found ensconced in the Sunday Merle Reagle crossword puzzlea trait she inherited from her father. To her family and friends she was a gracious hostess. A passionate "foodie" and gourmet chef, Teresa's kitchen was the source of countless memorable feasts. Teresa is survived by her loving son, Justin Wilson of Frederick, MD. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Mundie Schmitt, also of Frederick. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry A. Schmitt, Sr. Teresa is also survived by her brother Henry Schmitt of Springfield, VA, his wife Robin and daughters Karilee and Kaytlyn; sister Marianne Schmitt Hellauer of Ellicott City, MD her husband Bob and sons Robert and Matthew; sister Suzanne Schmitt Doughty of Mount Vernon, WA, her husband Tom and daughters and sons-in-law Courtney and Tom Morkes and Natalie and Nicholas Janusz; her god-father, Uncle Clarence and Aunt Marion Schmitt. The family will receive friends from 2-4pm & 6-8pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Wednesday, October 29, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Buckeystown, MD. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Association of Mental Illness in Teresa's honor are suggested.
