Mr. Charles Edward Cole, Jr., age 94 of Frederick, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Flora Rebbecca (Angleberger) Cole who passed away in 1977 and his current wife Margaret Cecelia (Carpenter) Cole. Born on June 3, 1920 in Frederick he was the son of the late Charles E. Margaret Mary (Wickless) Cole. Mr. Cole comes from a long family history in the town of Frederick. His ancestor was Mayor William George Cole who saved the city of Frederick from being burnt to the ground during the Civil War by offering $250,000 in ransom money. Mayor Cole's brother was Charles E. Cole, an editor of the Maryland Union Newspaper. Charles E. Cole, Jr. was a decedent of him. Mr. Cole, his father and his brother ran the Cole's jewelry store in the 300 block of N. Market St. They later bought the Pawn Brokers Outlet at 61 S. Market St., which later moved to the present day location at 242 N. Market St. He last worked at the age of 91 roughly 3 years ago. When he had free time he enjoyed his antique cars, was a good mechanic, did oil painting, played guitar, harmonica and a few other instruments, camping, crabbing and enjoying the Chesapeake Bay. He was a life time member of United Fire Company #3, serving as a volunteer earlier in life. Mr. Cole is survived by his children, Patricia J. Cole Murphy of Pleasant Valley, NY, Charles E. Cole, III and his wife Lucy of Tampa, FL, Richard A. Cole and wife Kimberly of Frederick, and Teresa L. Cole Lentz and husband John of Frederick. He is the grandfather of of 8, and the great-grandfather of 5. In addition to his first wife and parents, Mr. Cole is preceded in death by his 1 grandson. Friends will be received on Friday, November 28, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick were services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 11 AM. The interment will follow at Mt. In memory of Charles Charles and I were married for 31 years. We had many good time going to car shows, camping trips and spending winters in Florida.
