Mr. Eugene Francis Bishop, 88, of Frederick, died Friday, December 19, 2014, at Martinsburg Veterans Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Madeline Bishop, who preceded him in death in 2007. Born July 28, 1926, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Altha Bishop and the late Herbert Bishop. Eugene graduated from Frederick High School in 1944 and then served in the US Army during WWII. He worked as a photographer for the government at Ft. Detrick and later at Harry Diamond Labs, Washington, D.C. After retiring in 1981, he enjoyed traveling around the US (Florida, Texas, and Wyoming) with his wife. Eugene liked football and baseball. He also enjoyed fishing in his younger years. He had a love of horse racing including attending the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Most importantly, Eugene was a family man and loved to spend time with his wife, daughter and granddaughters. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Schaffer, granddaughters, Kelly Inglis and Kirstin Inglis, sister, Barbara Kline, special friends, Albert Marcey and Frederick Everhart, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all of the staff, doctors, nurses, aides, volunteers, the chaplain and the grievance counselor for the excellent care that Eugene received at the VA hospital (hospice unit). Eugene was treated with the greatest respect and dignity along with excellent care and compassion during his stay there. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm, on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will be held at 1:00PM, on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at the Libertytown United Methodist Church, 12055 Main Street, Libertytown, MD 21762. Pastor Jerry Cline will officiate. Interment will follow at Central United Methodist Church Cem. In lieu of flowers. memorial contributions may be made to the Libertytown UMC at the above address.
