Virginia Despeaux

Virginia L. Despeaux, 94, of Frederick, died on January 10 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Howard Leroy Despeaux, who died in 1969. Born on April 6, 1920, she was the daughter of the late John Garver and Catherine Layman Garver. Mrs. Despeaux was primarily a homemaker, staying at home and caring for her children. She was a very loving mother, and when she became a grandmother, became very devoted to her grand-children. Virginia was a seamstress during and after the war effort of World War II and later worked in the cafeteria at St. John's Prospect Hall and worked as a custodian at C & P Telephone Company. Mrs. Despeaux was a long-time member of Frederick Church of the Brethren. Virginia is survived by her children Edward Despeaux and wife Joan, Christina Hurley and husband Gerald and son-in-law Harvey Breeden. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Jeanne Breeden and siblings James Lightner, Margaret Mullican and Mary Lou Cook. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 13 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 14 at 11:00 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home, Rev. Sandi Evans-Rogers and Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey co-officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
