Mrs. Jean Miller Shirey, 82, of Frederick since 1985, passed away on January 12. She was the wife of the late William Shirey and Frederick Miller. Born on July 1, 1932, in Orange, NJ to the late George and Anna (Deignan) Leeman. Jean was one of seven children. Jean was a homemaker and raised seven children with her husband Fred. She was a navy military wife and lived in Virginia, Rhode Island and Maryland. Jean was a member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Walkersville, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association for many years and a member of the Red Hat Ladies. At one time, she was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of their church choir. She worked for a few years at the Frederick Community College bookstore. Mrs. Shirey is survived by her children: Ruth Funk and husband Patrick of Fairfax, VA; Andrew Miller of Monrovia, MD; Jeannette Roessler and husband Stephen of Hixson, TN; Judith Gracia and husband Jairo of Peoria, AZ; Patricia Palmore and husband Jeffrey of Pacific, MO; Steven Miller and wife Missy of Frederick, MD; and Kathryn Wiser and husband Aaron of Monrovia, MD. She is also survived by her step daughters Ann (Shirey) Hagan and Susan (Shirey) Anderson. Jean is survived by 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive family and friends on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, MD 21793. Reception will follow in church hall. At a later date, a private interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Glade Valley Center in Walkersville for all the care and kindness during her stay.
