Royce Richard Rice

Mr. Royce Richard Rice, age 95, of Frederick, died on Tuesday, January 19, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis Runion Rice, they were married on April 8, 1942. Born in Cumberland on June 5, 1919, he was a son of the late Virgil and Virginia Lee Atwell Rice. Mr. Rice proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, during WW II as a Warrant Officer. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, former Sunday School teacher and served as a deacon. Also a member o f the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post # 11. Surviving in addition to his wife is one son, Stephen R. Rice and wife Susan, of Frederick, two granddaughters, Stephanie L. Fields and husband Timothy of Frederick, and Rebecca R. Gutierrez and husband Michael, of Lake Linganore, step granddaughter, Alecia Fields, of Frederick, and four great grandchildren, Andrew Machi, Amanda Grace Fields, Megan Gutierrez and Ryan Gutierrez, one niece, Christine Yinger, of Fishing Creek, MD. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenmore Rice and wife Anna, sister, Ethel Davis and husband Lorentz. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 1 PM in the chapel of the mausoleum at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 South Market Street, Frederick. Entombment will follow the service. Rev. Dr. Larry Eubanks will officiate Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Digestive Health Center, 22 S. Green Street, Room N8E28, Baltimore, MD 21201.
