Anna Elizabeth Weedy (Anna Betty) age 94 of Frederick, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospice Center after a short illness. She was born on August 28, 1920 and was the daughter of the late George R. Weedy and Edna C. Weedy. Anna was raised in Burkittsville and Brunswick, Maryland. Anna lived the last seven years at Country Meadows of Frederick. She attended University of Maryland and Shepherdstown University. She taught for the Frederick County Public Schools for over 30 years. Her teaching career began at Burkittsville Elementary and ended at South Frederick Elementary School in Frederick. After retirement she continued her teaching career as a volunteer at Good Shepherd Preschool and Kindergarten. She also worked for Mary Kemp at Frederick School Supply Store. She is survived by nephews Kim, Gary and wife, Cheryl, and Steven Weedy, great nephews, Aaron Weedy and wife, Nicole, and Sean Geouge, great nieces, Karen Leist and husband Brad and Brianna Weedy, and several great great nieces and great great nephews. Anna was preceded in death by her brother R. Kaetzel Weedy, sister-in-law Edna M. Weedy, Kim's wife, June Weedy and niece Holli Weedy Geouge. She will be remembered by devoted friends, Carroll and Donna Smith, Lois Noffsinger-Spurrier, and their families, Debbie and Mike Savageau and Brenda Taylor. Anna Betty was a member of the Frederick County Retired Teachers Association, Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Citizens Nursing Home Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Rainbow Bells, American Legion Auxiliary and was an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church. Anna loved playing cards with Dutchie Baumgardner, Aggie Smith, and Lauretta Smith and was also a very good friend of Edna (Mac) Weedy and Margaret Strailman. She enjoyed traveling with Clara Green. Anna was grateful to Kim Weedy, her nephew and his wife June, and her friends and staff at Country Meadows, including her cousin Jesse Ahalt. Anna was a devoted friend and teacher and will be missed by her family, many friends and numerous past students. A memorial services celebrating her life will be held at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 E. Church St., Frederick on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11 AM. Rev. Dr. Robert Driver-Bishop will officiate.
