Mr. Eugene V. Earley, 85, of Frederick, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015 after a courageous journey with Parkinson's Disease. Gene was surrounded by his family at the time of his death. He was the loving husband of the late Camille Robinson Earley who preceded him in death on April 3, 2009 after nearly 60 years of marriage. Born February 25, 1929, he was the son of John and Helen (Will) Earley. Born in Whitestone New York, Gene moved to Washington D.C. as a child. He graduated from Central High School and went to work for the Department of the Interior as a cartographer. He also served the Chillum- Hillandale Fire Department as a volunteer fireman. Eugene was one of the lucky few who was able to retire young and start his own business. He opened the first of many Pizza Oven restaurants in 1957 and eventually expanded to the delivery business with Pizza Movers. Gene moved his family to Naples Florida in 1972 and spent the next 15 years golfing, fishing , boating and living the country club life. He had a passion for yard work and his lawn and gardens were always the envy of the neighborhood. Gene also enjoyed the thrill of Vegas. He took many trips and played well into the night. He was known to fall asleep at the slot machines. Gene moved back to Ellicott City Maryland and enjoyed growing the Pizza Movers business and being close to family. He was also a DIY guy. He put down floors, built shelves, furniture, painted and was always willing to teach others his skills. Being always on the go, up and out the door kind of man, he worked as a courier into his late seventies. Eventually, He moved to Fredrick to live with his devoted son and family. He was a member of the Moose Club and spent several nights a week playing Texas Hold-Em with fellow Moose members and friends. His Moose friends would affectionately call him, "Gene, Gene, the Poker Machine" and not being afraid to call a bluff, members could often be heard saying, "I've been Gened". Above all, Gene was a devoted family man. His advice, care, unconditional love and pride for his kids will never be forgotten. He is survived by four children: Patricia Fuller and husband Larry, Timothy Earley and wife Donna, Jean Sexton, Anne Schaefer and husband Scott. Gene was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00PM, on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at in the chapel at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20906.
