Mr. Eugene Sterling "Gene" Burger, 84, of Frederick, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of Geraldine "Gerry" Bosley Burger. Born in Urbana in 1931, he wasthe son of the late Herman and Loretta Ricketts. Gene was raised by his loving grandmother, the late Elizabeth Wiles Burger. He was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1948 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Gene was known in Frederick for over 34 years as owner of Gene's Barber Shop.Following that,he and his son Jerry owned and operated TRU-rents, Inc. He had a great love for flowers and he and his wife enjoyed growing and hybridizing Dayliliesand Irises. Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Jerry King and wife Earline of TN, Warren Burger of Frederick, Kenneth King and wife Ellen of VA, Terry Troupe and husband Jeff, Cheryl King and Christie Gordon and husband Dave Masser, all of Frederick, 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by half brother, Daniel F. Ricketts. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, February 19, 2015, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Dana Werts will officiate.
