Donald Ellis McClain, age 82, of Monrovia, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, after a courageous 10-year battle with cancer. He was the husband of 54 years of Eleanor (England) McClain. Born Oct. 14, 1932, in Monrovia, he was the son of the late Edward M. McClain Sr. and the late Agnes (Fink) McClain. Mr. McClain was a longtime dairy farmer and later a rural carrier at the Monrovia Post Office. He was a lifelong member of Bush Creek Church of the Brethren in Monrovia. A member of the Frederick High School Class of 1951, he was a past president of the New Market Lions Club and member of the Frederick County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, going to sales and auctions and playing cards and was well known for his generous spirit and love of life. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Diane M. Rey (Dave) of Annapolis and Debra J. McClain (Leonard), of Ijamsville, three grandchildren, Lee Morris, Emily Rey and Julia Rey, and numerous friends. He is also survived by one brother, Bernard W. McClain, of New Market, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Robert P. McClain and Edward M. McClain, Jr., and a sister, Marguerite Kemp. Friends will be received on Thurs., Feb. 19, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m., at the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821-A Green Valley Rd., Monrovia, MD, 21770, with arrangements by Keeney & Basford Funeral Home.
