Mrs. Lois Margaret Ferris, 88, of Frederick, died on February 20 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Richard Ambrose Ferris. Born on April 19, 1926 in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of the late Richard Brown Ferris and Caroline Mildred (Warner) Ferris. Mrs. Ferris was truly one of the Greatest Generation. Raised with a strong work ethic, Lois never shied away from hard work. After graduating high school, she enrolled in nursing school, taking training and classes with her best friend Kitty. Lois then married her late husband, Richard and together the couple had five children. When her children reached school age, Lois decided to go back to work, beginning a 20 year career as a librarian with Montgomery County Public Schools. Upon retirement from Montgomery County, Lois began a 14 year volunteer career at St. John's Grade School in Frederick as a librarian. In her later years, Lois enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family. Her greatest joy in life were her grandchildren and great grand children. Lois is survived by her children, Robert Ferris, Judy Marple and husband Don and Jeff Ferris and wife Lisa; grand-children Katie Marple, Kristen Norris and husband Chris, Megan Schargorodski and husband Brad, Brandon Ferris and Tyler Ferris; great-grand-children Eric Norris, Jackson Schargorodski and Samantha Schargorodski; sister Joan Filsinger; sisters-in-law Margie Cahill and Pat Ferris and many nieces and nephews.
