He was a resident of the Citizen's Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick. Born on October 3, 1939, he was the only child of William Mack Moore Sr. and Margaret Culler Storm Moore ("Patsy"). He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Bill graduated from Frederick High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. He then began a forty-three year teaching career for the Frederick County Public Schools, first at Elm Street School and then at Linganore High School. He taught all levels of mathematics and served as a tutor for many students. Bill was the Linganore yearbook advisor for many years. As the drama director for over 15 years, he led many student productions including Oklahoma!, Hello Dolly, Dracula, The Pajama Game, and A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum. In 1969, Bill joined with other local drama teachers and performers to found The Fredericktown Players, Inc. (FTP), which went on to become a very successful part of the arts scene in the greater Frederick area. Known for directing many outstanding productions of a variety of shows, he excelled at musicals, including such shows as The Pajama Game, Hello Dolly, and The Apple Tree. He was also a beloved performer in such diverse roles as Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls and Marryin' Sam in L'il Abner, and in his signature role, Pseudolous, the leading role in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He went on to perform this role in sparkling productions for theatre companies across the county and in West Virginia. Bill loved to travel. With his parents, he travelled several times to Hawaii and on road trips all over the USA. He also travelled extensively throughout Europe and Russia. Perhaps, his favorite vacation spot was Colonial Williamsburg, which he visited frequently. He was a knowledgeable lover of opera, holding season tickets for the Washington Opera for many years. He supported the Kennedy Center and also attended performances by the Washington Concert Opera and The Metropolitan Opera (NY). Bill is survived by cousins Mary Lynn Deckert of Salisbury, MD, Helen Ownsby of St. Mary's, GA, and Mary Anna Handley of Frederick, MD. He will also be missed by special friends Russell Beaton, Ginny Brace, and Jana Moberly. They wish to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Citizens Nursing Home and Rehab Center for their excellent care of Mr. Moore during his final years as he experienced a variety of health issues. Friends are invited to a time of remembrance Thursday, March 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street. As Bill requested, internment will be private.
