He got involved in local politics and eventually went to work as Administrative Assistant to Congressman Peter Frelinghuysen, of New Jersey in 1959. He went on to serve as Administrative Assistant to Senator Charles "Mac" Mathias of Maryland. He was known as the "Dean of Capitol Hill" to many friends and associates. When President Gerald R. Ford called on Bill to join his team, he was appointed Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs (Senate), serving from 1975 to 1977 in the White House. Mr. Kendall was the liaison between the White House and the United States Senate. After his White House service, he returned to Capitol Hill to Senator Charles H.
