John Wayne Kraus, Sr.

December 2, 1941 — April 2, 2015

Mr. John Wayne Kraus, Sr., 73, died on April 2 at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster. He was the husband of Freda Ruth (Morrow) Kraus. Born on December 2, 1941 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Henry Edward and Virginia Cecilia (Wehn) Kraus. Mr. Kraus was a systems analyst at Westinghouse for many years. He was passionate in learning about reptiles, especially turtles, and he compiled his own extensive database on the world's turtles. Always looking to lighten the mood, his sense of humor and outlook on life will be missed by those who knew him best. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Freda Ruth Kraus, daughter Karen Marie Kraus and her longtime partner Patrick Griffith, son John Wayne Kraus, Jr. and his wife Jessica and grand-daughter Allison Nicole Kraus. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 11 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Carroll County, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, Maryland 21157 or to Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Company, 8 West Locust Street, Union Bridge, Maryland 21791.
