Edna Estella Wachter

Edna Estella Wachter, 87, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Glade Valley Nursing Home in Frederick. She was the wife of the late George Shafer Wachter Sr. Born on December 8, 1927 in Frederick County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Nora (McCuller) Staub. Edna was a homemaker and later worked at Walkersville Elementary School, in the cafeteria. She also worked part time at Bell's Metals and for Harld Martz & Son & East Coast Relay, Ft. Detrick, retiring from there in 1989. She worked at Dorbey's Meats at the Frederick Fairgrounds every Saturday for many year, until she was 82 years old. Edna was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Utica. She was a member of the Lady Moose and a longtime member of the Tuesday night Women's Church League. She enjoyed bowling on Friday nights at Village Lanes bowling alley and was known for being a very good duck pin bowler. She dearly loved her two cats, Little Girl and Little Boy. Edna is survived by her son, George Shafer Wachter Jr. and wife Sharon, and her three grandchildren, Thomas H. Gibbons, Sheldon Hawkins and Cheryl Ann Reynolds; three great grandchildren, Chastity Reynolds, Mason Tobery and Justin Tobery. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Lee Hawkins; and sisters, Frances E. Fout and Mary Jane Staub. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Friday, May 8, 2015. A memorial service will be held on at 10am on Saturday, May 9th at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The Reverend Bert Lane will officiate. Inurnment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
