Mrs. Nellie Boyer Roberts, 96, formerly of Sherman Avenue in Frederick, died May 23, 2015, at Northampton Manor. Born August 29, 1918, near Braddock Heights, she was the youngest child of Russell L. and Bessie Crampton Boyer. Her husband, Henry V. Roberts, died in February 1981. Mrs. Roberts was an active member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and Sunday School near Feagaville. She had been employed by Mar-Lu-Ridge Lutheran Camp; and she both volunteered and was employed at the Frederick Sr. Center and was also a member of their Sr. Fellowship Board. She served as a volunteer receptionist at Homewood and also volunteered at our local Soup Kitchen. She was a member of the Autism Society; and she enjoyed landscape gardening, reading, bird watching, and playing pinochle and bridge with her friends. She was proud to earn her G.E.D. in her sixties; and she enjoyed writing her memoir. Mrs. Roberts is survived by one son and two daughters, Gene Roberts and wife Shirley of Old Swimming Pool Road, Shirley Zimmerman and husband Kenneth of Jefferson Pike, and Judy Stup and husband Darryl (now deceased) of Frederick; six grandchildren, Sharon Murphy, Dennis Roberts, Kevin Zimmerman, Laurie Savage, Janna Barrick, and Sarah Stup; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and also nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Blank, and one brother, John O. Boyer. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 25, 2015, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning, 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, corner of Mt. Phillip and Mt. Zion Roads. Interment will follow at Jefferson Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews John, Jr., Robert, and James Boyer, C. Edward Roberts, Ronald and Donald Roberts. Those desiring may send memorial contributions to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 5463 Jefferson Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21703, to be used for the upkeep of the landscaping.
