Mr. Richard Lee Johnson, Sr., 83, of Thurmont and formerly of Damascus, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the Golden Living Center, Frederick. He was the husband of Eileen Virginia Burke Johnson. They were married on September 22, 1954. Born in Damascus on June 2, 1931, he was a son of the late Earl G. and Catherine Duvall Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a dairy farmer and worked the family farm for many years and after his retirement on the farm, he then worked several years for the Montgomery County Government in the roads department. He was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife is one son, Randahl E. Johnson and wife Jane, of Thurmont, two sisters, Mary E. Linthicum and husband Miel, and Hazel A. McKenzie and husband Dickie, three grandchildren, Jaimee Johnson and fiance Erik, Chris Johnson and fiancee' Brittany and Sarah Cantrell and husband Tim, five great grandchildren, Brayden, Mikaela, Arabella, Camden and Blake, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Johnson, Jr., two brothers, J. Frank Johnson and Earl L. Johnson. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Tim May, will officiate. Interment will be in the Providence Cemetery, Kemptown.
