Mrs. Susan Z. Snyder, 61, of Middletown, MD, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of John W. Snyder, joined in marriage on July 15, 1972. Born on September 12, 1953 in Frederick, she was the daughter of Ward and Patricia (Crum) Zigler, currently of Charles Town, WV. Susan is survived by her daughters Andria and Laura Snyder, Andria's son Evan Marvel-Snyder, and Laura's fiancée Adam Tinney, all of Frederick. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Richard Zigler and wife Susan of Charles Town, WV, sister Patricia Zigler-Wachter of Frederick, sister Jean Zigler Kotch and husband Rob of Pompano Beach, FL, mother-in-law Helen Snyder of Thurmont, sister-in-law and husband Nancy and Tim Mahoney of Rehoboth, DE, and sister-in-law and husband Carol and Bill Myers of Keymar, MD. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Corey Mahoney, Amanda Zigler Habel, Joshua Zigler, Thomas Wachter, and Kirsten Wachter Teal. She will be greatly missed by her Scottish Terrier, Midnight Wisteria. Susan was a graduate of Governor Thomas Johnson High School, class of 1971. She went on to graduate from the Cosmetology School of West Virginia in Martinsburg. She worked for numerous years in retail, including at Mangels, Montgomery Ward, and Eyerly's/BonTon Department Stores. She transitioned into the medical field, working at various times for an endodontist and a podiatrist, challenging herself by learning medical skills and eventually retiring in 2011 from a family medical center. In her youth, Susan was an invited member of Jobs Daughters, a Masonic organization. Susan has always been a caregiver to those whom she loved, both friends and family. She liked to keep busy; she made everything from wedding to birthday cakes, traveled with her husband and daughters, and was a previous volunteer with the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Susan enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, traveling to the beach and caring for animals. She was a life-long member of the Grace United Church of Christ, Frederick. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick,and additionally on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 10-11 AM at the Grace United Church of Christ, 25 E. 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701 prior to funeral services. Services will begin at 11 AM. Rev. Dr. Rob Apgar-Taylor will officiate. The interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Snyder's name to the Grace United Church of Christ at the above address.
