Annabel Louise Grubb Anadale, age 92, residing at Buckingham's Choice in Frederick County, Maryland, passed away on June 25, 2015. She was born on October 5, 1922 in El Paso, Texas. She was the daughter of Luther Alexander Grubb, a Sargent at Fort Bliss who was from Greensboro, North Carolina and Mary Cecilia Borky from Sioux County, Nebraska. After her Father retired from the U.S. Army in 1927, she resided with her parents in Denver, Colorado, a short period in New Jersey and then in Washington, D.C. Her Father was a policeman, and later Chief of Police, for the Soldiers' Home, now the Soldiers and Airmans Home, and they resided for many years in base housing that was located where the Washington Hospital Center is now, near First and Michigan Avenue, N.W. in Washington, D.C. Annabel attended St Anthony's Catholic Elementary School, Notre Dame Academy and received a BA degree in biology from Trinity College. She worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, D.C. after college and prior to her marriage. Annabel met John Alfred (Jack) Anadale at a dance sponsored by their two schools, Trinity College and Georgetown University. They became quick friends and exchanged many letters while he was in the U.S Army and overseas during World War II. Jack served as a crewman on B-24 bombers flying from England over France and Germany in 1944. Upon his return to the States and discharge after the War, they were married at St Martin's Catholic Church in June 1947. They resided in Northeast Washington, D.C. and raised five children. Both were active members of St Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Annabel attended to her Mother at home during her final years and cared for Jack at home for ten years in his ill health. She resumed a career outside the home as a social worker for Catholic Charities of Washington, D.C. She worked with unwed mothers, emergency charity cases and directed an Elder Day Care Facility. She was widowed in May 1981 and retired from Catholic Charities in the Fall of 1987. By then a grandmother, she spent time with her children and grandchildren. She pursued her travel, family history and crafts interests in stained glass. In January 2000 she sold the family home of over 50 years and relocated to Frederick County, Maryland taking up residence at Buckingham's Choice in Adamstown. She pursued her many interests as an active participant in many activities and as the institution's historian and photographer for several years, ceramics program coordinator and member of various committees. She enjoyed especially day trips, playing pool with other residents and the music programs. Annabel was a member of St. Joseph's-on-Carrollton Manor Catholic Church in Buckeystown, Maryland. Annabel is survived by her five children; James Leo (Carol) of Adamstown, Elizabeth Anne of Georgetown, Texas, Robert Michael of Westminster, Colorado, John Alfred III (Linda) of Olney, Maryland and Theresa Marie(Michael) Keim of Westminster, Maryland; eight grandchildren; Christopher James (Susan) Anadale of Emmitsburg, Maryland, Tracy Lynn (David Baker) Anadale of Westminster, Maryland, Susan Patricia (Kyle) Mangiero of Ellabell, Georgia, Justin Michael Anadale of Colorado, Kristen N. Anadale of Colorado, Ashley B. Anadale of Colorado, John Alfred Anadale IV of Olney, Maryland and Nolan Michael Keim of Westminster, Maryland; and ten great-grandchildren; David Christopher Anadale, Mary Seraphina Anadale, Henry Quinlan Baker, Peter Damien Anadale, Sterling Alexander Baker, Isabella Patricia Mangiero, Peyton M. Anadale-Rodriquez, Emma Therese Anadale, Kayla J. Andale and Mitchell Douglas Mangiero. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm, on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at St. Joseph's-on-Carrollton Manor Catholic Church, 5843 Manor Woods Road, Frederick, MD 21703. Father Leo Halloren and Deacon Greg Rausch will officiate. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington D.C., 924 G Street NW, Washington DC 20001.
