Joan Frank Putney

November 18, 1935 — July 5, 2015

Mrs. Joan Frank Crum Putney of Frederick, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 5, 2015 after suffering a stroke. She was the wife of Richard Putney who she married on April 29, 1957. Born on November 18, 1935 in Frederick she was the daughter of the late Raymond H. and Elizabeth Ann (Frank) Crum. Joanattended the Maryland School for the Deaf from 1942 - 1954 and continued her education for one year at Kemper School for the Deaf in Washington DC from 1954-1955. She retired from Fort Detrick in April 1995 with distinction and many awards. Joan's interests included travel, crafts, antiquing, Longeberger baskets, Dingo as well as activities within the deaf community in Maryland. She was an avid dog lover, she had two cherished pups, Juffy and Buffy. Joan was a fourth generation Frederick resident, she never missed an opening day of the Frederick Fair, loved long walks around Baker Park and all the events downtown, she was proud of her heritage and of her city. Joan is survived by her devoted husband Richard Putney, daughter Jennie Kleinberg, her son Jamie Frederick Putney, grandson Alexander Kleinberg and granddaughter Sydney Kleinberg. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 10-11 AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd St., Frederick where a mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 AM. The interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions may be made in Joan's name to Frederick Memorial hospital, 400 W. 7th Street, Hospice Unit 2C, Frederick, Md. 21701. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff (ER, ICU and 2-C Hospice) at Frederick Memorial Hospital for the loving and compassionate care provided during Joan's brief illness.
