Mrs. Carol Ann (Barnum) Ring, 75, of Frederick died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Ret. US Navy Capt. Henry Mark Ring, who preceded her in death in Oct. 2013. Born November 8, 1939, in St. Paul, Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Clayton Day and Genevieve (Garlic) Barnum. Carol graduated from St Cloud State University in 1961 with a bachelors degree in Sociology and Psychology. She married Henry in July of 1961 and they were married for 52 years. As a Navy wife she enjoyed extensive travels. In the summers she loved to return to Minnesota and visit family and friends at the lake. Carol worked for the Montgomery County Public School System for over twenty years in ESOL and Special Education. In her retirement she enjoyed serving on the board of directors for the Bethlehem House, a Christian facility caring for persons with Intellectual and Development Disabilities. Carol had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her grandchildren, playing bridge and being on the "World Wide Web" and "The Facebook". Carol is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Long and husband Bill of Cumming, GA, son, Mark H. Ring and wife Deborah of New Market, grandchildren, W. Patrick Long, Rebecca Long, Daniel C. Ring and Samantha Ring, sister, Nancy Kay Hoppe and husband Dennis, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from6 to 8pm, onWednesday, August 12, 2015, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at1:30PM, onThursday, August 13, 2015, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701, friends will also be received from12:30 to 1:30prior to Mass. Father Keith Boisvert will officiate. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church Building Fund, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.
