Mrs. Dorothy Darr, 102, formerly of Adamstown and Frederick, died on Thursday, August 20 at Glade Valley Nursing Center, Walkersville. She was the wife of the late Leo H. Darr. Born on April 8, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Beverage Myers and Hattie Frye Myers. Mrs. Darr was a farmer's wife while she and her husband farmed in Urbana. She worked in the cafeteria at Adamstown Elementary School. For her 100th birthday, the Frederick News-Post wrote an article on her life. Darr said even though times were hard, she and her family had enough to eat as they grew their own food. She grew up when Urbana had one store, a couple of houses and a motel. Dorothy was funny, feisty and full of life. When asked her key to longevity, Mrs. Darr offered: "Don't get in your chair and sit, it's not good for you. I like to be outdoors." Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Glade Valley for the care they provided to her. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Rita Lookingbill. She is also survived by special friends Betty Gibson and Paul Lookingbill. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Darr. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 27 at 11:00 AM at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market Street, Frederick. Those wishing to attend should assemble at the Historic FSK Chapel of the cemetery by 10:45 AM.
