Edith Denny Fresh

Mrs. Edith Denny Fresh, age 97, formerly of Frederick, Monrovia, and Potomac, MD, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, in the Health Care Center of Buckingham's Choice in Buckeystown. She was born on June 14, 1918 on a 500 acre farm just outside of Wye Mills, MD, and was the sole survivor of the six children born to Harry F. and Almyra Sparks Denny. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John Norman Fresh, in 1992 and by her son, Donald Wesley Fresh in 1980. She attended a one room elementary school in Wye Mills directly across from the famous Wye Oak tree which stood until it was toppled by a thunderstorm in 2002, and graduated from Centerville High School in 1935. From there she went to Strayer Business School in Baltimore and became an executive secretary for a firm in Baltimore. She also worked in the Montgomery County School System as a substitute teacher for twenty years. She met her husband in Baltimore and they were married in 1938 on the lawn of her home in Wye Mills. She joined the Methodist Church when she was very young and became active in all the churches in the areas in which she lived. She was made a life member of the United Methodist Women in 1947. She had been a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick since 1981 and served on the Board of Trustees as well as many other committees. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Fresh Neumark and husband Lawrence now living in Boonsboro, MD. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Lauren Fresh Arungaren and husband Steve of California, Garrison (Garry) Fresh, also of California, Tom Neumark and wife Tricia of Point of Rocks, MD, and Tim Neumark and wife Monica of Falling Waters, WV as well as seven great-grandchildren. Her body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 11 am at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. 2nd St., Frederick with Rev. Harry C. Cole officiating.
