Mr. Daniel Orlan Dew, Jr., 89, of Middletown, ( affectionately known as Pappy) passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at Northampton Manor Health Care Center. He was the husband of the late Helen Wiles Dew, who died on December 25, 1995. They were married on June 10, 1972. Born on November 8, 1925, in Watersville, he was a son of the late Daniel O., Sr., and Grace Biddinger Dew. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WW II, and was stationed in the Philippines. He retired after 22 years, having worked at Eastalco Aluminum Company.. He was a devoted volunteer for Carroll Manor Fire Company, taking time off from work every year to work at the carnival and the Great Frederick fair. After moving to Middletown in 1996, he joined the Braddock Heights Fire Department. He was also a life member of the Amvets Post # 9, Middletown. Pappy was a special, caring and loving man who was always ready to help anyone. He had a great love for animals, especially his dog Lulou, who misses him terribly. He will be sadly missed by his granddaughter Kim and great granddaughter Hilary, who provided much love and care for him every day of his life. Surviving him is one son, Thomas Humm, of FL, a daughter, Bonnie Shank and husband Leon, of Frederick, granddaughters, Kimberly Palmer and husband Kevin, of Middletown, and Lisa Bickley and husband Michael, of VA, great grandchildren, Hilary Palmer and companion, Carl Ice and John Arnold and wife Samantha, great great grandchildren, Emily and Zachary Arnold, special friends, Mike and Cindy Brandenburg and many other relatives. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, October 30, 2015, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick.
