Barbara Shankle Ford

Mrs. Barbara Lee Shankle Ford, 87, of Frederick, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at her home. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late George D. Ford, Jr., who preceded her in death on September 2, 2007. They had been married for 60 years. Born on June 28, 1928 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Merhl Stiner and Mamie Elizabeth Ray Shankle. She spent her entire life in Frederick and was the last of her immediate family. Mrs. Ford was a 1945 graduate of Frederick High School and secretary of her class. Following her senior year she was hired by the Board of Education of Frederick County where she spent her entire working career of 42 years, retiring in 1987. Barbara being of the Christian faith, was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Frederick. For many years she served the church faithfully on many church committees. She was a member of the Maryland Retired School Personnel Association and the Frederick County Retired School Association. She was a member of the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post #11, Auxiliary. Barbara is survived by her god-son, C. Roger Hargett and wife Barbara and their families; accompained by many nieces, nephews and cousins, Longtime friends, Evelyn and Jim Sell, Shirley and Roger McThenia, Ted and Fern Mercer and special care givers, Sylvia and Annie, and a god sent neighbor, Hilda Gordon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, in the mausoleum chapel of the Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 South Market Street, Frederick. The Rev. Dr. Larry Eubanks, will officiate. Interment will follow in the cemetery. Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the First Baptist Church, 7040 Bowers Road, Frederick, MD 21702.
