George Martin Layman, Jr., 88 of Frederick, died peacefully Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at his home. Born in Frederick, on August 15, 1927, he was the son of the late Kathryn Ellis Esterly and George Martin Layman, Sr. He was the husband of the late N. Louise Waltz Layman whom he married May 5, 1951. He is survived by one son George Martin Layman, III and his wife Rebecca and three grandchildren, Hannah Grace, Andrew Ellis and Caroline Page whom he adored. His devoted cousin Pat, several other cousins, nieces and nephews, three God children.
Mr. Layman was a life member of the American Legion Post 11 in Frederick. He served in Korea as a Staff Sergeant in 1950 and 1951. He was also a member of Calvary Methodist Church. He owned and operated Laymans Grocery until 1972, worked at Wachter Brothers and retired from Weis Markets. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth T. Layman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, December 7, 2015, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. The Rev. Dr. Eric T. Myers, will officiate. Internment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
